Amazing News from the Battlefield: v.121 released!!!
|
|
Out of the blue, the new 1.21 patch from EA Games for Battlefield 2 is now available at their official website. Rumors had it that the previous patching team that worked on the 1.12 and 1.2 patch were all terminated and a new team was formed to fix the mistakes made from the previous crew. Again, this is a rumor found on many Battlefield 2 forums, but eitherway the new patch is here and hopefully things will be much better. |

Google to ditch Gmail Name in UK
|
Google has already been forced to get rid of the Gmail name in Germany over a trademark dispute, and now it looks like the similar threat in the UK has worked. While they say they'll still fight it out in the courts, Google is dropping the Gmail name in the UK, requiring all new UK users to sign up with a googlemail.com account. Of course, does it really matter? The name Gmail is already now pretty closely associated with Google and it's unlikely there's really much, if any, confusion with most of these other offerings. And, more importantly, can Google really tell if someone in the UK or Germany is from that country and know not to allow them to have a gmail.com address? It seems like an easy thing to get around for those who really want the gmail address. It sort of raises a bigger issue, though. With the "global" nature of the internet, is it really reasonable to have to deal with different local issues like this? |

Astrologer sues NASA for "moral suffering"
|
MOSCOW - NASA's mission that sent a space probe smashing into a comet raised more than cosmic dust — it also brought a lawsuit from a Russian astrologer.
Marina Bai has sued the U.S. space agency, claiming the Deep Impact probe that punched a crater into the comet Tempel 1 late Sunday "ruins the natural balance of forces in the universe," the newspaper Izvestia reported Tuesday. A Moscow court has postponed hearings on the case until late July, the paper said.
Scientists say the crash did not significantly alter the comet's orbit around the sun and said the experiment does not pose any danger to Earth.
The probe's comet crash sent up a cloud of debris that scientists hope to examine to learn how the solar system was formed.
Bai is seeking damages totaling $300 million — the approximate equivalent of the mission's cost — for her "moral sufferings," Izvestia said, citing her lawyer Alexander Molokhov. She earlier told the paper that the experiment would "deform her horoscope."
NASA representatives in Russia and at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., could not be reached for comment on the case. |

Ruling on Grokster does not end piracy concerns
|
THE US Supreme Court's ruling, reported yesterday, that internet file-swapping programs such as Grokster can be held liable for copyright infringement has, in theory, swung the balance in the battle over entertainment obtained via the internet decisively away from illegal downloading.
The reality is more complex. The court's ruling left open several important questions, and, despite warnings from technology lobby groups, the power of the internet to disrupt the entertainment business has not gone. |

Microsoft and Toshiba to codevelop players that use the next-gen storage format, which Bill Gates says future models of the next-gen console might adopt.
TOKYO--A major development in the next-generation disc wars took place this week, with Sony's top rival in the format flap inking a pact with its main competitor in the games market. At a Tokyo press conference on Monday, Microsoft and Toshiba announced that they will jointly work on the development of HD-DVD players that use Microsoft Windows CE technology. |

Samsung Targets DRAM Graphics Speed World Record

We all know, especially us passionate gamers, just how important an advanced video card might turn out to be. It must offer high quality images, but also allow the game to be played at a decent speed.
And probably with this purpose in mind, the Korean giant Samsung has just announced the development of what seems to be the world's fastest graphic memory chip. |

Mercenaries

I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I popped this game into the PS2. However, I was more than pleasantly surprised. This game was developed by Lucasarts...and has nothing at all to do with Star Wars.
You play a Merc, hired by a private military agency contracted by the UN.... |

Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil
|
|
Now that you have your fancy-schmancy SOUL CUBE, what are you going to do with it? You got it, keep it out of the hands of the evil minions of HELL and destroy as many of those soul-sucking bastards as you can in the process. That is the premise for the new official Doom 3 expansion pack soon to be released from Id software. In addition to that, they brought our favorite weapon from times of old back in this expansion pack - THE DOUBLE-BARRELED SHOTGUN. |
